This is pretty wonderful: The official White House transcript of an exchange between the president and pool reporters during a visit to the Nothin' Fancy Cafe in Roswell, NM. It shows Bush to be both funnier and more adept at flustering the press than I'd previously had reason to suspect. I'm not saying these are good things, just that they're surprising. Best bit:
REPORTER: But Mr. President --
THE PRESIDENT: Stretch, thank you, this is not a press conference. This is my chance to help this lady put some money in her pocket. Let me explain how the economy works. When you spend money to buy food it helps this lady's business. It makes it more likely somebody is going to find work. So instead of asking questions, answer mine: are you going to buy some food?
REPORTER (visibly cowed): Yes.
(Via Tim Porter's First Draft.)
an interesting tidbit:
if you go to google and type in "miserable failure" and press "i'm feeling lucky" instead of "google search" you get a white house page on GW...the internet works in mysterious ways (or by elves who scamper magically through the wires with messages)

The Bush Curse!
Is God mad at US? Do you believe there is a curse on US?
- Remember the 3,000 lives lost on 9/11?
- Remember the 1,111 soldiers killed and 8,000 wounded in Iraq?
- Remember dozens killed and $30 billion destroyed by hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne?
- Remember the Columbia Shuttle disaster?
- Deadly flu outbreak in the midst of vaccine shortages?
- Mount St. Helen volcano about to destroy the Pacific Northwest?
- Millions of Americans jobless, poorer, and without health insurance?
Do you remember 1989-1992 when Bush Sr. was president?
- Remember dozens killed and $25 billion damaged by hurricanes Andrew and Hugo?
- Remember Bush Sr. sent 500,000 soldiers to fight Iraq because his Ambassador April Gilespi told Sadam he could invade Kuwait?
- Millions of Americans jobless, poorer, and without health insurance?
Many believe that the "Bush Curse" was cast on US by Prescott Bush, the grandfather. In 1942, his Union Banking was seized by US Government for trading with the enemy by financing Hitler and the Nazis. It is said that he cast a curse on US saying that his family will revenge him.
If you believe in a better America, forward this email to people you know. Time to remove the Bush Curse!
